AWSM president Marisa Ingemi announced the following upcoming initiatives during our convention in Los Angeles.

‍AWSM Champions is returning

‍After a brief hiatus, the AWSM early and mid-career mentoring program will resume with applications opening on Aug. 25. AWSM Champions pairs professional members of AWSM with mentors for a year of conversations and support. Many of our past champions have landed new jobs and promotions and have stayed in touch with their mentors after their year of collaboration ended.

‍AWSM launches high school certificate program and contest

‍AWSM is thrilled to announce we're expanding outreach and support to the high school level in response to a high level of interest around the country. If high school students complete two online training programs, they will be eligible to receive an AWSM certificate recognizing their commitment to professional development. We also will be offering high school students an opportunity to participate in a sports journalism contest. More information about the program will be posted on the AWSM website and social channels on Sept. 1.

‍AWSM Scholars application date set

‍We will open our AWSM Scholar applications on Sept. 10 and close in early November. Please check our website, social media channels and the email for full application details.

‍AWSM's online job fair returns

‍AWSM is hosting an online job fair on Wednesday, Sept. 23. Participants will be asked to RSVP and submit a resume and areas of interest, then will be matched with select employers for a brief conversation. Registration for employers and participants will be posted online on Wednesday, Aug. 19. You must be an active AWSM member to participate in the job fair.

‍AWSM's next regional events will be on the East Coast

‍AWSM is committed to hosting two upcoming regional events in Boston and Philadelphia, offering opportunities for East Coast members to gather in person if they could not join us at our L.A. convention. Boston University is hosting our Boston area gathering in late October or early November. We will announce the final date for the Boston meeting along with a Philadelphia date soon.

‍AWSM's online workshops will resume this fall

‍The AWSM board is planning a series of online professional development opportunities for our members. If you would like to see any topics covered or have interest in leading a session, please email us at awsmboard@gmail.com.

‍AWSM turns 40 and we need you

‍We are asking all members past and present to commit to supporting AWSM as we plan for our next convention, which will mark the organization's 40th anniversary. You can help by volunteering to assist the board directly or participating in our programs and encouraging others to join during our membership drives.
