The Association for Women in Sports Media has proudly served our  membership for more than 38 years. We recognize that a rapidly changing media landscape and new demands for our members time require some changes to our leadership structure.

To help meet this moment, AWSM is announcing board elections featuring new vice president positions with duties tailored to better serve all our members.

This new board will work to reinvigorate our digital and social presence, grow our already robust membership and strengthen our support for professional members and student members. We encourage all AWSM members to review the positions listed below and strongly consider running for office. Whether you are a new member or a longtime veteran, we need your help and will provide all the training assistance you might need.

The member-wide electronic vote will be held in November.

President (Two-year term):
The President provides leadership, advocacy and strategy while also ensuring the organization remains a key resource for its professional and student membership. The President leads board meetings and is responsible for timely communication with the board and membership. The President works closely with the Treasurer to ensure a sustainable financial model. The President works closely with the Board Chairperson and the executive team to create strategic plans that move the organization forward. The President is the national spokesperson for AWSM on relevant/critical issues in consultation with the Board chair and the full board.

Vice President, Scholarships and Awards (One-year term):

Responsibilities include overseeing and implementing AWSM's annual college scholarship program as well as the annual Pioneer Award and the Ann Miller Service Award. The vice president will also oversee the AWSM Champions program. The vice president will work with coordinators and host employers to identify and arrange, where possible, internship placements for scholarship winners. The vice president will establish committees to seek nominations, vet candidates and lead voting for our annual awards.
Vice President, Student Programming (One-year term):

Provides leadership and guidance to student chapter advisers and chapter coordinators. Leads at least two online meetings with student chapters each year. Acts as liaison to the board for student groups interested in starting new chapters. Helps organize student-only virtual events. Works with the vice president, awards to select Chapter of the Year.

Vice President, Professional Development (One-year term):

Creates and facilitates programming to help members hone workplace skills in a changing media environment. This may include webinars, panel discussions and content for the website. The vice president coordinates job fair opportunities at in-person and virtual AWSM conventions.
Vice President, Website (One-year term):
Work closely with AWSM's outside webmaster to ensure that a re-energized website is functioning correctly and bringing value to the AWSM membership. This includes working with coordinators to update the Jobs board and posting timely announcements about upcoming events. The vice president will work closely with the vice president, Digital Content.

Vice President, Digital Content (One-year term):

The Vice President will develop content that ensures AWSM news, events, awards and significant items of interest are regularly communicated to membership via the AWSM website. The vice president also will work with the vice president for professional development to create content for a members-only section that provides resources and guidance from AWSM experts and veterans. Topics could include negotiating a raise, dealing with online harassment and how to launch a newsletter.

Vice President, Social Content (One-year term):

Manage AWSM's social media presence and oversee any coordinators who create content for the social media platforms. The vice president will work with the vice presidents of content, professional development and student chapters to create content that amplifies the work of members.
