Membership Benefits

Events & Networking

Our regional and national events offer educational and networking opportunities while featuring some of the most respected individuals in the industry. Recent events have been in Austin, Charlotte, Denver Houston, Nashville, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Seattle. From panel discussions to workshops to social outings – AWSM provides something for everyone.

Jobs & Training

Each week new listings for jobs and internships are added to our members-only jobs board. Employers can alert AWSM of openings by emailing awsmjobs@gmail.com. In addition to awarding periodic grants to attend conferences and for training, each spring we take on new applicants for our yearlong AWSM Champions mentoring program.

Internships & Scholarships

Since AWSM established its internship/scholarship program in 1990, nearly 200 female college students have been placed in positions with employers ranging from ESPN to MLB.com to Sports Illustrated. College students receive a discounted price on memberships, which also includes waiver of the internship application fee.

Additional Benefits

Members have access to quarterly newsletters and a variety of discounts – ranging from reduced rates to join other media groups to reduced registration fees for AWSM’s annual convention and priority access to events including virtual panels. We also offer a variety of volunteer opportunities involving both student and professional groups.

AWSM Champions

AWSM Champions is a yearlong mentoring program open to the organization’s professional members. Mentees are matched with a sports media veteran in the appropriate field and partake in discussions with industry leaders. Mentees receive a complimentary one-year extension of their AWSM membership and nominal assistance to attend the organization’s annual convention. The application period will open each spring.
