The Association for Women in Sports Media is thrilled to be back in person after a pandemic pause and will hold its 2022 annual convention Aug. 4-7 at The Curtis hotel in the heart of downtown Denver. The boutique hotel is a DoubleTree operated by Hilton that showcases unique, colorful art. There are playful surprises on every floor and in each room, offering endless opportunities for fun photo shoots.

General registration for the convention is $450 for students, $500 for professionals and $800 for nonmembers. Registration and hotel bookings have been extended until July 18. Cancellations are subject to a $50 fee. No refunds will be processed after July 1.

Attendees will be required to show proof of vaccination and AWSM will be observing CDC COVID-19 best practices, along with any local health ordinances, throughout the convention. After registration, attendees will be given options to submit their proof of vaccination in advance or in person. AWSM also will be providing updated COVID guidance in the month leading up to the convention.

These rates represent AWSM’s first increase in fees in three years. The conference continues to be one of the best values among media organizations, factoring in the amount and type of food and beverages provided as well as quality speakers and networking opportunities.

#AWSM2022 attendees will enjoy a rate of $159/night for singles and doubles during the program and includes complimentary internet. Additional adult occupants in a guest room are subject to a fee. The rate is officially sold out on Aug. 3 and limited quantities remain for the rest of the convention. Self-parking is available for a discounted rate of $30/night. Hotel rooms can be booked until July 1 to receive the discounted price or until capacity is reached as AWSM is expected to sell out.

Denver International Airport (DEN) offers nonstop service to more than 180 U.S. cities and is served by 23 airlines, including Alaska, American, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Southwest, Spirit, Sun Country and United. Travelers can take the airport rail to Denver Union Station for $10.50 each way. Union Station is half a mile from The Curtis. A taxi from the airport to downtown runs $55. Travel time is approximately 30 minutes. Please check back for updates on travel options leading up the convention.

AWSM is pleased to have ESPN and the Los Angeles Times as silver-level sponsors and the Associated Press as a bronze-level sponsor. For information about corporate sponsorships – contact board chair Iliana Limón Romero, president Ashley Colley or the AWSM board.

Denver was selected by AWSM because of its strong sports market, affordability, favorable airport and the success of past events, including the organization’s 2015 convention. Other western cities under consideration included Los Angeles and Portland.
