Visser receives Billie Award Lesley Visser, the inaugural winner of AWSM's Mary Garber Pioneer Award, was named Outstanding Journalist at this year's Billie Awards. Named after women's sports pioneer Billie Jean King, also an AWSM member, The Billie Awards recognize the positive power the media possess in the promotion of women's sports. Visser was one of four media members to receive recognition for their extraordinary work in portraying girls and women in sports. During the April 15 awards ceremony in Hollywood, Visser was recognized as a groundbreaking broadcast journalist. She is the only sportscaster to work on network broadcasts of the Final Four, Super Bowl, World Series, NBA Finals, Triple Crown, Olympics, U.S. Open and world figure skating championships. Fellow Pioneer Award winner Christine Brennan, AWSM's first president, won a Billie Award in 2006. More information: www.womenssportsfoundation.org
