Hockey Writer Helene Elliott Enters Hall of Fame Helene Elliott became the first woman to be inducted into a "big four" Hall of Fame on November 8, 2005 when she was honored with the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award from the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. The award is in recognition of distinguished members of the newspaper profession whose words have brought honour to journalism and to hockey, and is selected by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association. Elliott has been a sportswriter since the late 1970s and is currently with the Los Angeles Times. " Helene Elliott is a pioneer among female sports journalists," said Kevin Allen, president of the Professional Hockey Writers' Assn. "But she has truly been a role model for sportswriters of both genders. Her ethics are unquestionable. Her reporting is beyond reproach. Her prose is lively. Her professionalism is of the highest order. "There is no one in this business any more respected than Helene." Elliott's husband, former New York Knicks PR Director Dennis D'Agostino, wrote a moving tribute to her that ran in the Times. Photo courtesy of Dave Sandford/Hockey Hall of Fame.
