Text of ESPN's Response to AWSM Regarding Playmaker Protest

I know you've reached out to some of my colleagues with a similar inquiry. I am responding on behalf of all of us. We appreciate your perspective and all the work AWSM does to help advance women in sports media.

As you've probably seen from some of our public comments, ESPN is quite proud of our leadership position in providing opportunities to female sports journalists. Our commentator roster includes some of the most talented and experienced female reporters in the business. They have covered the biggest events and stories, illustrating our commitment to provide assignments regardless of gender.

With the Thea Andrews situation, we certainly understand and respect your opinion. However, after reviewing the situation, we believe that our viewers recognize the fact that on Playmakers, she is an actress playing an exaggerated fictional role. We wish you continued success and look forward to an ongoing and constructive relationship with AWSM.
