The Association for Women in Sports Media will hold its 2019 summer conference from June 13-16 at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina along the scenic downtown waterfront.
The Marriott Waterside is located across the street from Amalie Arena – home to the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning – and sits two miles from Ybor City, accessible from a trolley stop steps from the hotel. The Florida Aquarium and Tampa Museum of Art are less than a mile away. The property will have completed a $40 million renovation by the time AWSM’s conference is held.
AWSM attendees will be offered an initial rate of $169/night for single/doubles, which includes complimentary internet. The room rate is good three days before and after the conference, based on availability. Attendees also are eligible for reduced valet parking rates.
All members who sign up during the early registration period – which opens March 1 – will be offered a reduced rate of $300. After the early-bird period (which ends March 15), registration prices will be $650 for nonmembers, $400 for professional members and $325 for student members. Cancellations are subject to a $25 fee. No refunds will be processed after May 1.
These rates represent AWSM’s first increase in fees in more than five years. The conference continues to be one of the best values among media organizations, factoring in the amount and type of food and beverage offered as well as outings and quality speakers.
AWSM will continue to seek to secure airline, rental car and shuttle discounts for attendees as well as pairing individuals seeking roommates.
Results from a survey distributed at AWSM’s 2018 conference in Arizona and a social media poll indicated Atlanta and Dallas/Fort Worth are favorites among the membership for the organization’s next summer conference. AWSM will look into the viability of competitive pricing in each area before as it makes a determination on the 2020 conference location.
